Mission statement
Our mission is to build a connected and skilled bioinformatics community across Wales, enabling researchers to harness the power of scientific and medical data to advance understanding of human disease and improve patient outcomes.
Strategy statement
We bring together researchers, bioinformaticians, and data scientists from across Wales through the Wales Bioinformatics Network (WBN) — a collaborative forum for sharing expertise, learning from peers, and engaging with leaders in the field. Our work spans a broad range of scientific and medical data, with a particular focus on cancer, rare disease, and infectious disease.
Through the WBN, we are building a Welsh cohort of bioinformaticians equipped to represent Wales in international networks and to support researchers at all career stages — from PhD students through to established investigators. We provide access to training resources, shared code, and a growing community of practice, ensuring that analytical expertise is accessible across institutions.
We welcome researchers and bioinformaticians who are looking to collaborate, develop their skills, or contribute to cutting-edge biological data science in Wales.
